Arkansas Razorbacks wide receiver Treylon Burks has the attention of ESPN NFL Draft expert Todd McShay. Burks is a candidate to be the first receiver off the board in April’s draft, and McShay has him going 19th overall in his mock draft 2.0 to the Philadelphia Eagles.

McShay is high on Burks, and part of that is due to his elusiveness and strong play with the ball in his hands despite being a bigger receiver.

“I went with Treylon Burks from Arkansas,” McShay started. “This guy is 6-foot-3, he’s got a sturdy build, and he’s a slot receiver primarily. That’s where he does his best work. Mismatch over the middle, he’s great after the catch. That’s the thing that’s unique about him. Usually the big guys, it’s catches down the field. But he’s really good, quick transition up the field and he’s elusive in the open field for such a bigger guy.”

Burks began his collegiate career in 2019, where he hauled in 29 catches for 475 yards as a freshman. In 2020, he played in nine games with 51 receptions, 820 yards, and seven touchdowns. This past season, Burks broke out as a star for Arkansas, bringing in 66 receptions for 1,104 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also had 14 rushing attempts for 112 yards and another score.

With nearly 2,400 yards and 19 total touchdowns in his collegiate career, Burks has definitely put himself into the discussion to be the top wideout in the 2022 draft class.

Burks would bring a needed skillset to the Eagles offense

With the Eagles drafting Burks at 19th overall in McShay’s latest mock, he is the third wide receiver off the board. McShay has the Atlanta Falcons selecting USC’s Drake London eighth overall, and the Cleveland Browns selecting Ohio State’s Garrett Wilson 13th overall. Ohio State’s Chris Olave, Alabama’s Jameson Williams, and Penn State’s Jahan Dotson also go in the first round in McShay’s most recent projection.

If Burks does ultimately go to the Eagles in the draft, it would be an ideal fit. The Eagles selected DeVonta Smith in the first round last season, but there is still a glaring need for pass catchers on the Philadelphia offense. Smith caught 64 passes for 916 yards and five touchdowns as a rookie, and tight end Dallas Goedert was second on the team with 56 catches, 830 yards, and four touchdowns.

While there are some players that can contribute offensively beyond Smith and Goedert, the Eagles need an influx of talent. Burks would fit the bill, and he would add an entirely new element for the Eagles. McShay also has Philadelphia selecting Georgia linebacker Nakobe Dean and Georgia EDGE Travon Walker in his mock draft.
