Winona (Miss.) Secondary four-star linebacker Tyler Lockhart has committed to Auburn, he announced on Monday evening.

He chose the Tigers over the likes of Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Alabama, LSU and others.

Lockhart is the No. 146 overall prospect and No. 16 LB in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 6 player in Mississippi.

The 6-foot-4, 195-pounder was on The Plains at the end of March and has also locked in a June official visit with the Tigers. He becomes the second highest-ranked pledge in Auburn’s top-10 recruiting class.

“The defense, the way the linebackers play. The linebacker position looks good, like it would fit me,” Lockhart previously told Auburn Live after his spring visit.

Last month, Lockhart was a standout to On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power at the Under Armour Nashville camp. The blue-chipper’s playmaking ability helped him stand out amongst an impressive field.

“In a setting that isn’t typically favorable for linebackers, Tyler Lockhart managed to make some nice plays while flashing intriguing upside,” Power wrote. “The Winona (Miss.) High product has a great frame with plus length. He moved well in drills and managed to make some plays in 1-on-1’s. Lockhart closed quickly on a route in the flats and later stayed in-phase defending a wheel route, leading to a pass breakup.”

Tigers back to 10 commitments with the addition of Lockhart

The surprise commitment from Lockhart brings Auburn back to 10 commitments in the 2025 cycle. Earlier on Monday evening, the Tigers lost a pledge from Peachtree City (Ga.) Mcintosh three-star tight end Hollis Davidson.

Lockhart is now the seventh four-star to join the fold for Hugh Freeze and Co. The class now ranks No. 9 in the nation and No. 4 in the SEC, according to the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.

Highland Home (Ala.) four-star EDGE Jakaleb Faulk still headlines the class as the No. 110 overall recruit and No. 16 EDGE in the cycle. Other top commits in the class include fellow top-200 prospects in Birmingham (Ala.) Parker four-star defensive lineman Jourdin Crawford, Fairburn (Ga.) Langston Hughes four-star OT Tavaris Dice and Opelika (Ala.) four-star defensive lineman Malik Autry.

Buford (Ga.) four-star cornerback Devin Williams is a top-25 player at his position, while Mobile (Ala.) Williamson four-star OT Carde Smith is the No. 19 tackle in the nation. Athens (Ala.) offensive tackle Spencer Dowland, Alpharetta (Ga.) Milton tight end Ryan Ghea and Kannapolis (N.C.) A.L. Brown three-star IOL Tai Buster help round out the class.
