Auburn pulled off one of the biggest flips of the 2024 football recruiting calendar when it poached five-star Phenix City (Ala.) Central wide receiver Cam Coleman away from Texas A&M earlier this month.

Coleman is one of the nation’s most dynamic playmakers at the receiver position and has been ranked as a five-star prospect by three of the four major recruiting services. Now though, he can add his name to the list of Five-Star Plus+ recruit this cycle, players who are rated as five-stars by all four services.

On Tuesday, Rivals.com tabbed him as the No. 5 overall recruit in the class. On3, which ranks him No. 6 in the 2024 On300, was the first to rate him as a five-star back in April.

Coleman has rare size and athleticism at his position

In naming Coleman a five-star at that time, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power wrote this about him:

“Coleman has made a rapid rise over the past six months. He is arguably the most physically gifted wide receiver in the 2024 cycle, which is one of the better groups of talent at the position we’ve seen in several years. Coleman checks in at a verified 6-foot-3.5, 185 pounds. He has outstanding length for the position with 33.5-inch arms.

The high-end size pairs with elite athleticism. Coleman was one of the top overall athletes at Under Armour’s Atlanta camp back in February, running an electronically-timed 4.48 second 40-yard dash, a 4.19 second short shuttle and jumping 10’8″ in the broad jump. All three marks were top five at the event among over 150 FBS prospects

Most importantly, the elite combination of size and athleticism easily transfers over to the field, where Coleman is a functional, coordinated athlete. We initially tabbed Coleman as a huge mover in the last On300 update due to his impressive junior film. The belief that he is one of the top receivers in the cycle was furthered by his combine showing in Atlanta and several dominant outings on the 7-on-7 circuit.”

One of two elite WRs for the Tigers

Paired with Foley (Ala.) five-star wideout Perry Thompson, Auburn has two of the nation’s elite wide receivers this cycle. Both rank inside the top 10 at the position nationally and are also among the top four recruits in the state of Alabama.

Along with Chilton County (Ala.) elite four-star linebacker Demarcus Riddick, Hugh Freeze and Co. have commitments from three of the top five players inside the state, something Auburn hasn’t done since 2018.

The Tigers are also pushing for a third in-state five-star wide receiver in 2025 Alabama commit Ryan Williams, who is considered a strong candidate to reclassify into 2024 before the Early Signing Period later this month.
