Auburn quarterback Bo Nix has reached a deal with Bojangles to promote its new chicken sandwich. He joins Clemson quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei and North Carolina quarterback Sam Howell as partners with the popular fast-food chain.

Nix posted a picture on his Instagram story Tuesday night confirming his latest NIL deal. In a post that tagged Bojangles and included #paid at the bottom, the quarterback is pictured with a Bojangles bag and a chicken sandwich. “New Bojangles chicken sandwich is so good,” writes Nix.

The post also included the hashtag #itsbotime.

The clever wordplay gained traction on social media in the hours after his post, leading to more exposure for the Bojangles brand. Nix has done well so far in the new world of NIL, signing deals that fit his image as the Auburn quarterback while drawing attention from a wide group on social media. His first deal with Alabama-based Milo’s sweet tea set off a social media war between Alabama and Auburn fans who were familiar with the product.

The Nix legacy

Nix is entering his third season as the starting quarterback at Auburn. He is a legacy player, whose dad Patrick played for the Tigers from 1992-95. Patrick Nix helped lead Auburn to an 11-0 record after entering the game against Alabama due to an injury in 1992. The older Nix set a school record for best passer efficiency and still holds the Auburn record for most completions in a game with 34.

Before signing with Bojangles, Bo Nix created his own legacy at Auburn. He became the starter as a true freshman and capped off his SEC Freshman of the Year season with a 48-45 Iron Bowl win over Alabama. Nix finished 2019 with 2,542 passing yards with 16 touchdowns and 313 rushing yards with seven touchdowns.

Nix improved in almost every category during the shortened 2020 season and is on the radar of some scouts as a potential NFL Draft pick next year. He had 2,415 passing yards with 12 touchdowns and 388 rushing yards with seven touchdowns in three less games than the previous season. Nix also improved his completion percentage by 2.3 points.

Auburn is entering its first season under new head coach Bryan Harsin, who brought a reshuffled staff with him. Nix is expected to continue at starting quarterback with fellow SEC Freshman of the Year Tank Bigsby joining him in the backfield. A new group of wide receivers joins the offense with the departure of Nix’s favorite targets Seth Williams and Anthony Schwartz to the NFL.
