Auburn Tigers men’s basketball coach Bruce Pearl has helped turn the school’s basketball program into one of the elite programs in the country. But according to Pearl, Auburn is not just a football or basketball school. No, it’s an “everything school.”

“We’re an everything school,” said Pearl on The Herd. “I believe in the ministry of coaching. I believe in the work that can be done at a college campus. I’m not proud of what we’re doing in this country universally, on college campuses. I wish we could have diversity of thought, exchange different ideas, agree to disagree about different things, challenge and pray before meals every now and then and teach these kids to love our country a little bit more than what we do I think that’s what we do. I think that’s what we do at Auburn, and I think this has been an environment we’ve been able to train guys to go out there and be great. “

Pearl and Auburn enjoyed another postseason run, this time courtesy of the men’s baseball team. Auburn made it deep into the College World Series in Omaha before being eliminated by SEC West rival, the Arkansas Razorbacks. Despite the Tigers’ recent struggles on the football field, they are considered a legitimate threat year in and year out. And with Auburn being a title contender throughout the majority of their athletic programs, Pearl might have a legitimate case for the university being an “everything school.”

Butch Thompson discusses the state of the Auburn program following CWS elimination

Auburn baseball made its second College World Series appearance under Butch Thompson this season and has continued to show strides as a program. Despite competing year after year in the most difficult division in the most difficult conference, the Tigers continue to put out top talent and produce results.

During the postgame press conference after elimination, Auburn head coach Butch Thompson discusses where the Auburn program stands in the pecking order and what work his staff has done to reach this point.

“We just kind of work hard every day and try to make the right decisions every day,” said Thompson. “And we wake up and that’s the one thing you can do to make it stronger and better, such competitive space. I’m not sure I’m the judge of that. I’m part of it. So your head’s down. It has to be observed from somewhere else.

“These are always hard. I can just imagine in ’19 or in every season it’s like you need a minute. The first thing I had to do was meet with every coach and every player and then figure out where I’ve got to be in two days. And this was year 30. So Robert and I sit down, the future and coaching and what do you want to do.”
