Auburn quarterback Bo Nix suffered a broken ankle in Saturday’s loss to Mississippi State, according to a report from Cam Gaskins. Since the news broke, Auburn teammates have reached out over social media to show support for their starting quarterback.

Nix’s broken ankle will likely end its season, though Gaskins’ report did not specify any timeline for recovery. For now, the report clarifies that Auburn will turn to sophomore quarterback TJ Finley under center as the Tigers head to face South Carolina next week.

Starting center Nick Brahms tweeted, “I’m taking a team full of Bo Nix’s any day. Dude is a fighter and the best teammate you could ask for. Love you man! Proud to be your center!”

Tight end Luke Deal kept it simple, with just one sentence. “Love my QB,” he tweeted.

Another Box Nix teammate, outside linebacker Derick Hall chimed in, saying, “One tough man! Couldn’t ask for a better fighter and teammate! My QB!”

More about Bo Nix

Bo Nix played almost the entire game against Mississippi State until teammate TJ Finley came on in the game’s waning minutes. Nix finished with 27 completions in 41 attempts, good for 377 passing yards and two touchdowns. Finley, on the other hand, did not complete the only pass he threw.

Through Auburn’s first ten games, Nix has completed 61 percent of his passing attempts for 2,294 passing yards, 11 touchdowns and three interceptions, while also providing help on the ground — Nix has rushed for 168 yards and four touchdowns this year.

Nix, the 2019 SEC Freshman of the Year, came to Auburn from Pinson Valley High School (Alabama) as a five-star quarterback, one of the top-ranked quarterbacks in the nation. He had an immediate impact his freshman year, as he became the first true freshman quarterback to start a season opener for Auburn since 1946, and threw for 2,542 yards and 16 touchdowns, with just six interceptions. Additionally, Nix tacked on another 313 yards on the ground, rushing for seven touchdowns.

Though the 2020 Auburn Tigers went just 6-5 his sophomore year, resulting in then-head coach Gus Malzahn being fired, Nix put up a somewhat comparable statline to his freshman year; he threw for 2,415 yards in fewer games due to the abbreviated season, and he threw for 12 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He had an up-and-down 2021 season but figured to remain the starting quarterback throughout the remainder of the season before his injury.
