Following the Auburn Tigers‘ first scrimmage of fall camp, head coach Bryan Harsin broke down the status of the wide receivers room, along with some standouts at the position right now.

The first name out of his mouth was former three-star 2022 signee Camden Brown. He also shouted out returning receivers Ja’Varrius Johnson and Shedrick Jackson, along with former LSU Tiger Koy Moore.

“Camden’s a young player I think that’s catching our eye right now, I think Var is doing a good job, I think Shed’s had a good camp so far, we got to get him the ball a little bit more and in some of these situations but those guys have stood out,” Harsin said. “So those are some guys that I’ve seen making some plays and I think that whole group with Coach Hilliard has made a lot of progress, that’s what I know.”

“That’s a group that runs all the time and there’s been very few issues out of that group,” Harsin continued. “They’re working. We ask them to do a lot of things and be in a lot of different positions but overall they know what to do and they know where to go. We’ve got to get down to, ‘here are the guys that are going to make the plays.’ Koy’s coming on too, he’s going to be a good player for us. Those guys all have a role right now.”

Harsin and the Tigers hit the field for the first game of the season on Sept. 3 versus Mercer. The first top-25 challenge of the season comes in Week 3 versus Penn State.

Harsin praises Ike Hilliard’s work with wideouts

wide receivers coach Ike Hilliard is in his first season with the team. Previously, he spent more than a decade coaching in the NFL, most recently as the Pittsburgh Steelers wide receivers coach. Bryan Harsin discussed how Hilliard has impacted the wide receivers’ room since joining the staff.

Harsin praised both how the wide receivers have worked and how little distraction there has been under Hilliard, contributing to positive changes.

“I would absolutely tell you that he’s made an impact in the room. No doubt about it,” Harsin said. “Other than just those guys out there working, which is a really positive thing, there’s been very little distraction.

“And that’s a large group, you have large numbers at the wide receiver position. But, they’re just going. And I think that’s because of his leadership in the meeting room and all that. He has an expectation that this is how we’re gonna do it and those guys are doing it.”
