After some time when it looked like Auburn might have to go in another direction, the Auburn Tigers finalized a deal to make Hugh Freeze the program’s next football coach. This is a controversial hire for a number of reasons, however. One of those reasons is that some fans wanted to see Cadillac Williams promoted.

For his part, Cadillac Williams is embracing Hugh Freeze. Expected to remain on Freeze’s staff, Williams reached out to Freeze through Twitter. There, he sent a message to the new Auburn head coach.

“Let’s get to work, ⁦@CoachHughFreeze⁩… Excited for the future on the Plains!!! #AuburnFamily#WarEagle,” Cadillac Williams tweeted.

In his tweet, Cadillac Williams also posted a photo of himself meeting with Hugh Freeze. The implication of the photo is that the two plan on working together at Auburn going forward.

Since his hiring, contract details have emerged regarding Hugh Freeze’s contract at Auburn. He is getting a six-year contract worth $39 million. That’s about $6.5 million annually, which puts him eighth in the SEC in terms of salary.

Interestingly, the contract requires Hugh Freeze to give up control of his social media accounts. Why this might be a requirement in the contract can only be speculated on. However, it’s fair to say that his usage of them is part of why there has been pushback against Freeze.

Hugh Freeze shares his first message to Auburn fans

On Twitter, Hugh Freeze shared his first message to Auburn fans. It was short and sweet in a quote tweet of Auburn’s announcement that he’d be the team’s next head coach.

“Let’s get to work!!! #WarEagle,” Hugh Freeze tweeted.

Robbie Ashford welcomes Freeze

In the era of the transfer portal, it’s not uncommon for players to leave a program when there’s a coaching change. However, it would appear that quarterback Robbie Ashford, who welcomed Hugh Freeze to Auburn, is excited for the future.

“@CoachHughFreeze Welcome to the Plains, let’s get to work we’ve got unfinished business to handle,” Robbie Ashford tweeted. “#WarEagle.”
