McDonough (Ga.) Eagles Landing Christian Academy four-star cornerback Colton Hood has announced his commitment to Auburn. He chose the Tigers after decommitting from Michigan State on Dec. 10.

Hood is the No. 687 overall prospect and No. 65 cornerback in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also a three-star recruit and the No. 66 player in Georgia.

On3 rates the 6-foot-1, 175-pound defensive back higher than other recruiting services, according to the Industry Comparison. Per the 2023 On300, he is a four-star recruit, the No. 272 overall prospect, No. 31 cornerback and No. 28 player in Georgia.

Hood is now the second commit of the day for Auburn’s 2023 recruiting class. He joins Natchitoches (La.) Natchitoches Central three-star offensive tackle Tyler Johnson, who flipped from Texas Tech.

Following Hood’s pledge, Auburn’s 2023 class is No. 32 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 11 in the SEC. It contains two cornerbacks in Hood and Auburn (Ala.) Loachapoka School three-star Jacorious Hart.

The Tigers now have 12 pledges that are composed of five four-stars and seven three-stars. Montgomery (Ala.) Montgomery Catholic Preparatory four-star running back Jeremiah Cobb is currently Auburn’s highest-ranked commit as the No. 113 overall prospect in the On3 Consensus.

Auburn also has pledges from three other top-400 recruits. They are Columbus (Ga.) Carver four-star defensive lineman Darron Reed, Fairburn (Ga.) Langston Hughes four-star linebacker Terrance Love and Fort Pierce (Fla.) John Carroll four-star EDGE Wilky Denaud.

Hood has an On3 NIL Valuation of $6.3K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

Colton Hood On3 Scouting Summary

The following is the On3 Scouting Summary for Colton Hood:

“Two-way star who flashes his ball skills at corner and wide receiver but also shows off his change of direction and wiggle at the quarterback position. Multifaceted athlete with length that allows him to make plays on the ball as a defender with ease. Shows physicality as a runner with the ball in his hands and when working downhill as a defender. Takes on blockers and is a willing tackler in the run game. Excellent zone defender, possesses tremendous field vision and breaks on the ball quickly.

“Long speed is solid but not top-tier, could see him potentially transition to safety. Impressive return man producing as a kick returner and punt returner. Two-time all-region center fielder for his high school baseball team. Heady high floor player who will carve out a role on defense early on in his career as a nickel or deep half safety. Potentially could slide to boundary corner as he becomes more comfortable in man coverage.”
