There is a reunion of former Auburn Tiger coaches down in the state of Florida. Former Tigers offensive coordinator and quarterback coach, Chip Lindsey, will be joining their former head coach Gus Malzahn at the University of Central Florida. Lindsey will take on the same responsibilities for Malzahn while the pair coached at Auburn.

The former Tigers headman had this to say about his former offensive coordinator joining his ranks again.

“We’re thrilled to have Chip be part of our UCF family,” said Malzahn. “He was with me in 2013 when we went to the national championship game and again in 2017 when we won the SEC West. He’s a great quarterback developer, and he’ll be a great addition to our staff.”

“I’m extremely excited to come to UCF after watching that program from afar,” said Lindsey. “I’m really looking forward to the opportunity to reconnect with Coach Malzahn and work with him again–he changed the way college football is played with the things he has done. I’m looking forward to building on UCF ‘s big bowl win.”

Lindsey’s last stop

Lindsey spent his last three years with the Troy Trojans as their head coach. In his three years as the Trojans head coach, Lindsey went 15- 19 and was 5-6 this season. The school announced late in November, just before their final game of the season against Georgia State, that they would be moving on from their head coach effective immediately.

Before Lindsey got there, the Trojans experienced their best three-year run in program history. Under Neal Brown, Troy recorded three straight seasons of 10 wins or more, with three bowl victories to boot. Unfortunately for Lindsey and the Trojans, they struggled to win more than five games in each of his three seasons and failed to be bowl eligible.

Auburn linebacker declares for NFL Draft

On Sunday, linebacker Zakoby McClain announced his decision to declare for the 2022 NFL Draft. He released a statement via Twitter, thanking everyone involved with the Auburn program.

“Finally, I would like to thank my family, teammates, and classmates,” McClain said. “You all have made me a better player, but more importantly, a better man. I will take all that you have given me and improve as I embark on this journey. After much thought, consideration, and a lifetime of preparation, I will enter the 2022 NFL Draft and further pursue my dreams of becoming a professional football player. Again, thank you and God Bless!”

McClain played in all 12 games this year, totaling 95 tackles, with a season-high 15 coming on the road against the Arkansas Razorbacks. The linebacker finished with eight tackles for a loss and two sacks. He added two quarterback hurries and six pass breakups as well.
