Hugh Freeze became the head coach at Auburn in late November. On Sunday, he made an in-home visit to one of the top players in the Tigers’ 2023 recruiting class.

Freeze and defensive line coach Jeremy Garrett went to see Columbus (Ga.) Carver four-star defensive lineman Darron Reed. He flipped to Auburn from LSU on Nov. 25.

Reed is the No. 187 overall prospect and No. 21 defensive lineman in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 15 player in Georgia.

On3 rates the 6-foot-3.5, 282-pound recruit higher than other recruiting services, according to the Industry Comparison. Per the 2023 On300, he is the No. 40 overall prospect, No. 6 defensive lineman and No. 15 player in Georgia.

Auburn’s 2023 class is currently No. 32 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 11 in the SEC. The Tigers landed two commitments today in McDonough (Ga.) Eagles Landing Christian Academy four-star cornerback Colton Hood and Natchitoches (La.) Natchitoches Central three-star offensive tackle Tyler Johnson, who flipped from Texas Tech.

Reed has an On3 NIL Valuation of $17.4K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

Darron Reed On3 Scouting Summary

The following is the On3 Scouting Summary for Darron Reed:

“Big-framed, long defensive lineman with the build and versatile skill set to project at multiple spots along the front. Checks in at 6-foot-5, 260 pounds with the frame and length to continue filling out. Would not be surprised to see him end up in the 300 pound range after some time in a college strength program. Lines up inside and at defensive end for Carver and excels at both spots.

“Shows off an explosive first step along with the on-field athleticism to track down ball carriers as a pursuit defender. Pairs that athleticism with strong hands and the ability to shed blocks in run defense. Had a strong junior season as a stalwart on the defensive line for a state finalist team.”
