Auburn more passing yards than Bama? Peter Burns explains

Depth charts are starting to be finalized across the country with game week here in college football. However, do not expect Hugh Freeze to ever cosign one at Auburn. Despite Auburn football releasing a depth chart on Monday, the head coach denounced them.

Freeze addressed a depth chart-related question during his press conference on Monda by putting a stop to it right then and there as he made it clear that the depth chart did not come from him considering he doesn’t believe in them whatsoever.

“I’m going to be totally candid with you: I don’t even have a depth chart. So I don’t know where that came from,” Freeze said. “I guess that’s from the SID world. I don’t do depth charts. It’s really nonsense.”

To make his point, Freeze referenced the wide receivers as they were part of the original question. He said that they have their players who are going to be seeing snaps at that position but that there are no starters or reserves as they’ll all play at various times.

“I mean you’re going to play your four to five outside receivers and your two to three inside receivers in our system,” explained Freeze. “I don’t care who runs out there with the first group or the second group. They freely rotate.”

A depth chart might actually be pretty helpful down on The Plains considering all the new players at Auburn. Even so, that’s not how Freeze rolls and it doesn’t seem as though his point of view will be changing anytime soon.

“I don’t make much of those depth charts,” said Freeze. “That don’t fly with me. (It) doesn’t work.”

Freeze updates Auburn’s injury concerns ahead of Week 1

The first game of the Hugh Freeze era kicks off this week as Auburn will square off with Massachusetts at home this Saturday.

The Tigers kept some talent and added some new faces this offseason and, with game day just a few days away, Freeze updated the media about the injury status of his roster.

“Right now I’d say J.D. Rhym‘s questionable. Nick MardnerJalen McLeodNehemiah Pritchett I think will go. Robby Ashford‘s dealing with an oblique strain but I think he’ll go too,” Freeze said on Monday.

“It wouldn’t shock me if all of those went, truthfully, but it wouldn’t really shock me if a few didn’t make it either. But our list is pretty short and hopefully all of them will make progress this week and be able to go,” Freeze said.

Freeze will be looking to start his tenure with the Tigers off on the right foot this Saturday. Hopefully, he’ll get a chance to do so with a healthy team when Auburn faces UMass at home at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
