Murfreesboro (Tenn.) Riverdale EDGE Caleb Herring has quickly become one of the most prized defensive prospects in the 2023 class. The four-star already has more than 15 offers, and Sunday, he added Auburn to the list.

“I would like to thank Auburn for having me come visit, and after an amazing time at the Iron Bowl, I am extremely excited and blessed to receive an offer from Auburn University,” Herring wrote.

He is the No. 90 prospect in the 2022 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

On3 is higher on Herring than the rest of the industry, pegging him as the No. 50 overall prospect, No. 9 EDGE and No. 1 prospect in Tennessee.

Caleb Herring has ties to Tennessee

The 6-foot-4, 200-pounder leads a recruitment that is still very much open. He holds offer from Michigan, Michigan State and a number of others. But he also a strong connection to Tennessee, and it’s not just the fact that the Vols are the local schools. Elijah Herring, Caleb’s older brother is a 2022 prospect committed to the Vols.

While the older Herring is more of a traditional linebacker at 6-2 and 225 pounds, the younger is a long, lean, athletic hybrid that can play multiple roles.

The brothers are very close, and the parents would love nothing more than to see them stay together on the next level. Since Caleb started playing football in eighth grade, the two have worked out together, trained together, and played together for all but one year.

Tennessee is in heavy pursuit of the 2023 four-star and the Vols look to be in a good spot to land, not one, but two, Herrings.

Like his older brother, Herring is looking to make his decision towards the end of his junior year.
