Wendell Green injury forces him to locker room late in win over Georgia State

Auburn leading scorer Wendell Green suffered an injury late in a 72-64 win over Georgia State and had to be assisted to the locker room by team trainers.

Green appeared to get his right ankle caught under Georgia State forward Ja’Heim Hudson‘s foot as a play developed on the defensive end of the floor for Auburn, and his ankle rolled as he went to the floor.

Trainers took off Green’s shoe before helping him to the locker room, according to a report from Callie Stanford, an intern for Opelika-Auburn News.

Prior to exiting the game in the final minute, Green had chipped in 17 points, three rebounds and three assists in the win for the Tigers.

He leads Auburn in scoring and assists this season, averaging 13.4 points and 3.9 assists per game. He also averages 4.0 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game.

Along with Green, the Auburn backcourt has been powered by the likes of guards KD Johnson (10.9 PPG), Allen Flanigan (8.3 PPG) and Zep Jasper (3.7 PPG).

Wendell Green injury spoils Auburn win

Auburn fans will anxiously await updates on the Wendell Green injury. The Tigers have quality depth established under coach Bruce Pearl, but Green is one of the stars that makes everything click.

Ten different players for the Tigers have averaged at least 14 minutes per game for the Tigers this season.

After winning an SEC title in 2021-22 under Pearl, Auburn has lofty ambitions this season. The Tigers are currently ranked No. 19 in the AP Top 25 and moved to 9-1 on the season with Wednesday night’s win.

Meanwhile, the latest NCAA Tournament bracketology released by ESPN’s Joe Lunardi has Auburn as a No. 5 seed in the South Region.

Auburn will return to action on Sunday with a road trip to USC. The Tigers and Trojans are slated for a 5:30 p.m. ET tip on ESPN.
