Shadow Creek High junior Ashton Jones is staying in state for college.

The 6-foot-4, 185-pound wide receiver committed to Baylor over Houston, Tulsa, Oregon, Vanderbilt and Minnesota Sunday afternoon.

“It’s going to be Baylor,” Jones told On3. “Really, just the atmosphere and they want to win now. They are doing everything they want to do to win now with the new OC. And it’s close to home.”

Baylor head coach Dave Aranda and staff have recruited Jones with being a versatile offensive weapon in mind.

“They made it known that I was high on their 2025 board for the class, and they wanted me to be one of the leaders. They like m frame, skills and how I can contribute. They want to play me everywhere. They know I’m going to fill out, so I could play receiver or tight end in the offense.”

Shadow Creek High players have some familiarity with the Baylor program, but Jones also been on campus multiple times.

“I know a few guys from my school that went there before me. I was at their last game of the season too.”

While Jones had six finalists, it really came down to four schools.

“It was really out of Baylor, Vanderbilt , Tulsa and UH.”

The December 2024 graduate and family is not new to the recruiting process. His older brother is Mississippi State sophomore shooting guard Shaun Jones Jr. Jones also has a cousin playing Power 5 football that just declared for the NFL Draft – Nelson Ceasar.

The December 2024 graduate plays three sports at Shadow Creek. He competes in football, basketball and track. Jones has 39 receptions for 282 yards and five touchdowns in 15 games the last two seasons.

Jones is the No. 592 ranked prospect in the 2025 class. He also checks in at the No. 95 wide receiver in the cycle, and No. 96 ranked prospect in the Lone Star State.
