College football programs have yet to begin their summer regimes, and the Baylor Bears have already announced their starting quarterback for next season. According to Sam Khan of The Athletic, Baylor has announced that sophomore Blake Shapen will be their starting quarterback for next season.

Shapen beat out senior quarterback and last year’s starter Gerry Bohanon for the right to lead the Bears’ offense to kick off their 2022 campaign. Last season Shapen played in six games as a sophomore, including two starts when Bohanon was out with an injury. Most notably, he led Baylor to their Big 12 title last season, setting a title game record of 17 straight completions in the process. Shapen finished last year, completing 62 of his 86 pass attempts for 596 yards, five touchdowns, and zero interceptions.

With senior quarterback Bohanan now relegated to the backup role, it is uncertain whether his future still lies in Baylor. And with the Bears electing to announce their starting quarterback in April, it could allow Bohanan to transfer before the May 1 deadline. And if he does so, he does not require a waiver from the NCAA to play next season.

Baylor offers On300 offensive lineman Trovon Baugh

Atlanta Pace Academy four-star offensive lineman Trovon Baugh has picked up an offer from Baylor.

He is the No. 514 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

However, he is ranked much higher in the 2023 On300 ranking, where he slots in as a four-star recruit.

On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power highlighted Baugh after his performance at the Under Armour Next Camp Series: Atlanta event earlier this year.

Trovon Baugh has seen his stock rise significantly over the past month with several Power Five offers coming his way. Baugh looked the part of an ascending prospect at guard during the event,” Power said.

The 2023 Bears class has nine commits and currently ranks 20th in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Ranking.
