Following Kentucky head basketball coach John Calipari‘s departure from the Wildcats to become the next head man at Arkansas, the college basketball landscape has been wondering and speculating about who will take over the helm next at Kentucky.

A report from CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein on Wednesday revealed that Baylor head coach Scott Drew would be meeting with the Wildcats soon in Kentucky regarding their head coach vacancy. And per usual, people hit the internet in search of a private flight from Waco to Lexington to find out if Drew was on the move.

KSR’s Matt Jones reported on a Wednesday flight that matched the destinations, claiming that TV crews were already present at the Kentucky airport in anticipation of Drew’s arrival. But a tweet by Drew on Wednesday afternoon revealed that he’s still in Waco in a hilarious response that can be seen below.

“Great lunch spot in Waco on a rainy day. No better friend and supporter than Eric Shero and Alliance Bank,” Drew tweeted on Wednesday making his whereabouts known.

Drew could very well be simply documenting his lunch experience with a Baylor donor as they chat over chips and salsa. But given the news of the day and the current attention on his current connection with the Kentucky program, the post does seem somewhat intentional.

On Sunday reports surfaced that Calipari would be heading to Arkansas after 15 years with the Wildcats. Followed by an official goodbye message to Kentucky from Calipari on Tuesday and the Razorbacks announcing that he’d be their next head man on Wednesday. With Sunday’s news being immediately followed with names that should be considered for Kentucky’s head coaching job.

Names like Jay Wright and Nate Oats have already publicly shut down the idea of being the next head coach of the Wildcats. As coaches like UConn head man Bob Hurley, Chicago Bulls head coach Billy Donovan, and Drew have headlined the shortlists of potential candidates to follow in the footsteps of Calipari.

But the real question is does Drew’s post shut down the idea of him becoming Kentucky’s next head coach? Already becoming a public frontrunner for the job expected to meet with Kentucky ‘in the near future’ according to Rothstein.

Drew has spent the last 21 seasons with the Bears, delivering them one national championship victory in 2021 similar to how Calipari did for the Wildcats once during his 15-year tenure in Lexington. As all eyes will likely continue to be on Drew’s whereabouts moving forward as a candidate for one of the most coveted head coaching jobs in college basketball.
