Baylor is calling in all the reinforcements to keep Scott Drew in Waco, including those of spiritual nature. Rumors have been swirling that Drew is the top candidate for Kentucky as it searches for a coach to replace John Calipari.

Reality TV star and Waco native Chip Gaines weighed in after the Barstool Kentucky account on X posted a photo of him and his wife, Joanna, with the caption “Please keep these two away from Scott Drew for the next 48 hours.” The pair host the show “Fixer Upper” on HGTV where they remodel homes.

Gaines responded with a “y’all wish” before another poster made a comment about the money Kentucky could offer Drew. But according to Gaines, money isn’t everything.

“Money is boring.. everybody’s got money,” he wrote. “We’ve got God on our side.”

Drew has spent the past 21 seasons at Baylor to amass a 446-244 record in that span. He won a national championship in the 2021 season and has taken the Bears to 12 NCAA Tournament appearances. He is already the winningest coach in program history with more than double the amount of victories as the person in second place.

A report from CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein on Wednesday revealed that Baylor head coach Scott Drew would be meeting with the Wildcats soon in Kentucky regarding their head coach vacancy. KSR’s Matt Jones reported on a Wednesday flight from Waco to Lexington that many assumed could be Drew.

However, a tweet from Drew on Wednesday afternoon revealed that he’s still in Waco, as he was seen having lunch at a Mexican restaurant in the city.

“Great lunch spot in Waco on a rainy day. No better friend and supporter than Eric Shero and Alliance Bank,” Drew wrote.

Drew isn’t the only name receiving buzz as a candidate for the Kentucky job. UConn coach Dan Hurley, fresh off a second straight national championship, and Chicago Bulls coach Billy Donovan. Hurley addressed the rumors on Wednesday, indicating he was happy where he is without directly turning the job down.

Ultimately, it could take a few more days before it becomes clear who will emerge as the top candidate. For now, however, Baylor is doing everything in its power to make sure Drew stays put.
