Baylor will reportedly hire Tarleton State offensive coordinator Mason Miller as its new offensive line coach, according to The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman.

“SOURCE: Baylor is expected to hire Tarleton State offensive coordinator Mason Miller as the Bears offensive line coach,” Feldman wrote on Twitter. “Miller previously coached OL at Miss. St., WAZZU and Nevada; and developed Charlie Cross into a top 10 pick. 247 Sports first reported the move.”

Miller spent just one season at Tarleton State as the OC after having an original stint from 2014-16. He’ll now be apart of Dave Aranda’s Baylor staff.

Miller also spent time at Mississippi State as the offensive line coach. From 2020-22, he anchored leadership of the Bulldogs’ big boys up front.

The 25-year coaching veteran has spent time on coaching staffs at Tarleton State, Mississippi State (2020-22), Washington State (2018-19), Nevada (2017), McMurry (2009-13), New Mexico State (2005-08), Southeastern Louisiana (2003-04) and Washington & Lee (2000), among others over the course of his coaching career.

“I think so much of Mason Miller, he’s a first-class person who I’ve worked with in the past,” Tarleton State head coach Todd Whitten said at the time of his hiring. “Our players really enjoyed his coaching style, and he has a knack for coaching, teaching and working with young men. He’s a really smart, creative football coach. He’s been with some of the best football minds out there, with Mike Leach, Hal Mumme and guys like that. He’ll be good for our program and he’ll be good for our players.”

Dave Aranda hires former TCU coach Gary Patterson to off-field role

Gary Patterson is best known for his more than two decades as the head coach at TCU, one of Baylor’s Big 12 rivals. He later spent the 2022 season as a special assistant to the head coach with Texas.

The Senior Level Strategic Consultant role will see Patterson breaking down upcoming opponents and self-scouting the Baylor team for Aranda and the on-field coaches.

Patterson became one of the most successful coaches in the history of the TCU Horned Frogs. There, he compiled an 181-79 career record while leading the Horned Frogs from the WAC, to C-USA, to the Mountain West, and eventually to the Big 12. Along the way, he picked up six conference championships and led the Horned Frogs to three major bowl games while being known as one of the best defensive minds in the game. On top of that, he also led TCU to six AP Top 10 finishes.
