McKenzie Wilson, a Baylor softball player, is facing some legal trouble after recently being charged for allegedly stealing more than $1000 in cosmetic products, according to a report from KWTX. She was arrested and posted bail earlier this week.

Wilson, who bats leadoff and plays center field for the Bears, allegedly stole $1209 worth of cosmetics from a Target in Waco, Texas, according to court documents. Wilson allegedly stole the cosmetics over the course of multiple trips, spanning from May 2023 to February 2024.

Wilson has been charged with a Class A misdemeanor for theft greater than $750 but not exceeding $2500. The charge is punishable by up to a year in prison and $4000 fine, if convicted.

“We are aware of the reported situation, and based on the available information, we have taken the appropriate action.” said Brent Ingram, Baylor assistant athletic director for communications, to KWTX. “We will continue to handle this matter internally and in accordance with university protocols. We will have no further comment.”

An attorney for Wilson declined to comment when reached by KWTX.

The affidavit charging Wilson lays out some of how Target and authorities caught her allegedly stealing.

“On May 13, 2023, McKenzie Wilson failed to scan and pay for multiple Hero Cosmetics items valued at $119.41 at the Target Retail Store … ,” the affidavit said, in part. “The theft of Hero Cosmetics items was captured by security cameras. Target Loss Prevention also had provided video evidence of 11 other thefts that occurred throughout the rest of 2023 and some in 2024 where McKenzie failed to scan and pay for Hero Cosmetics items.”

Along with that specific instance, the affidavit lays out other instances of Wilson allegedly stealing from the Waco Target. The alleged thefts ranged in monetary value from $11.99 to $136.87.

Baylor plays a home double header this weekend. It’s not clear if Wilson, who has played in 11 games this season, will play for the Bears. She’s started all 11, and has been on a strong start to the season, batting .333 and scoring a run per game for the Bears.

Wilson was an All-Big 12 academic honoree in 2023 and one of two players on the Baylor roster to start in all 58 games. She finished with a team-high 59 hits and a .322 average while holding a 35-game on-base streak at one point. Wilson transferred to Baylor from Fresno State after the 2021 season.
