After a month in the transfer portal, former Notre Dame tight end George Takacs has a new home. The fifth-year veteran is already enrolled at Boston College, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, and he’ll participate in spring football.

Takacs recorded stats in three seasons with the Irish beginning in 2019. The 6-foot-6, 247-pound pass-catcher totaled eight catches for 78 yards and two scores for the blue and gold.

He was Notre Dame’s No. 2 tight end in 2021 behind standout Michael Mayer but received just four targets over 407 snaps. Takacs caught three of those balls for 36 yards. His lone touchdown of the year came in Notre Dame’s season finale against Stanford.

The former four-star prospect was the No. 17 tight end, No. 60 player from Florida and No. 346 player nationally in the 2018 class according to On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He held offers from Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Oregon and Ohio State, among others, out of high school.

“I want to thank our coaches, fans, academic staff, athletic trainers and anyone else who is a part of the Notre Dame football family for always supporting me and assisting me these past four years,” Takacs said in his departure notice. “You all are my brothers for life and I cannot thank you enough for the best years of my life.”

He currently ranks as the No. 8 overall tight end in the NCAA Transfer Portal. Two more players in the top 10 have yet to announce their next program – Michigan State’s Trent Gillison and Clemson’s Jaelyn Lay.

Takacs joins more than a handful of former Notre Dame players who’ve transferred since the end of last season: quarterback Brendon Clark (Old Dominion), linebacker Shayne Simon (Pittsburgh), corner Caleb Offord (Buffalo), safety Khari Gee (Georgia Tech), offensive tackle Quinn Carroll (Minnesota), receiver Lawrence Keys (Tulane) and punter Jay Bramblett (LSU).
