Clemson Tigers’ true freshman signal-caller Cade Klubnik was one of the most decorated high school prospects in Texas high school football history. He led Westlake (Austin, Texas) to a flawless 27-0 record when he was the starting quarterback there the last two seasons and led the Chaps to back-to-back state crowns. It didn’t take him long to show college football fans exactly why he was so highly regarded among recruiting services across the country.

Klubnik looked sharp in limited action in his first taste of game action against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Monday evening. The uber-talented quarterback recently talked about his relationship with Robert Griffin III and his tweet about Klubnik’s potential. Griffin recently tweeted that Klubnik will win Clemson a national championship before he leaves college.

“I mean I’ve known him for a couple years now. He’s always been a really good guy to me. Just on a spiritual level, too. He’s just somebody I’ve always looked up to. Just somebody I’ve always looked up to for…just life stuff, whether it’s recruiting,” Klubnik said.

“Just whenever I got here and just all types of advice he’s been able to give me. He’s been super nice. Just to kind of have somebody like that that’s gone through it. You know, he’s won a Heisman. He’s gone through the ups and downs of college football. He’s played in the NFL. He’s done it all and at the point where he’s at now. It was definitely a nice comment of him but I don’t really think it means anything.”

Cade Klubnik was one of the most decorated high school football players of all-time

Cade Klubnik established himself as one of the greatest quarterbacks in Texas high school football history during his time with Westlake (Austin, Texas). He was rated as the No. 3 quarterback prospect in the nation for the 2022 recruiting cycle, according to the On3 Consensus Rankings. He was named the 2021-2022 Gatorade Texas Football Player of the Year after he completed 71.3 percent of his passes for 3,251 passing yards and 43 touchdowns, while just tossing three interceptions. On the ground, he also rushed for 465 yards and 12 touchdowns during his senior season for Westlake.

Among other accolades, he was also named MVP of the 2021 Elite 11 quarterback competition and was selected to play in the 2022 U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Even though he suffered a separated left shoulder his senior year, he finished with a 27-0 record while suiting as the starting quarterback at Westlake in his last two seasons. Once he hung up his cleats for the Chaps, he finished with three straight state titles.

The 6-foot-1.5 inch, 180-pounder also set the program record for the most passing yards in a career. One of the most accomplished quarterbacks in Texas high school football history, Klubnik became the first quarterback to go undefeated as the starter while winning back-to-back state championships in Texas’ highest classification since Kyler Murray did it for Allen (Allen, Texas).
