The Clemson Tigers’ baseball team is one of the hottest programs in the nation. They’ve won 12 straight games. They’ve also won 17 of their last 18 games and 22 of their last 25. Clemson is currently facing the Virginia Tech Hokies in the 2023 ACC Tournament in Durham, North Carolina. In the fourth inning, Clemson head coach Erik Bakich discussed his team’s recent hot start with Wes Durham and the ACC Network television broadcast crew.

“Yeah, so far so good, I guess. It’s been okay, you know. It’s a little bit of a back-and-forth affair. But yeah, we got a couple of two out RBIs early. So that’s been good. And just….putting zeroes up. Had a few too many jams out there in these first few innings, so hopefully, we’ll get some zeroes up on the board.”

The Tigers have transformed into one of the hottest teams of college baseball during the second half of the season. They had a rough start at the beginning of their 2023 campaign, but the Clemson head coach said his team did a great job of believing and staying positive.

“You know, I don’t know if I can pinpoint anything. The next game is the most important game and just need to keep playing well. But you know, we were right there. We were so close in a lot of those early games. A lot of one run losses. So, we just had to stick with it. I don’t know if there’s a special moment or any type of thing like that. Our guys did a great job of believing and staying positive. Coaches staying positive. We knew we could turn it around. It’s one thing to say it. It’s another thing to do it,” Bakich said.

The Tigers’ head coach then revealed his game plan for his pitching staff for the rest of Wednesday night’s matchup vs. Virginia Tech. He had Ty Oldenchuk on the mound when he spoke with the ACC Network broadcast crew in the bottom of the fourth inning.

“We’ll probably keep mixing and matching unless somebody shows that they can get through the lineup maybe once or twice. But Chuk man’s got a good sinking fastball. He’s also got a four seamer and slider change. So, we’ll see how long he can go through here. We’ve got four really good leftys coming up at the top of the order after this guy. But it’ll be a challenge. This is a really good offensive team in Virginia Tech. They’re dangerous and they can score at any time,” Bakich said on Wednesday night.

Clemson will face the Boston College Eagles on Friday, May 26th in the ACC Tournament. For a full look at the 2023 ACC Tournament bracket check here.
