CLEMSON — It’s safe to say that there will be a lot of orange on the field when Clemson and Tennessee play in the Orange Bowl later this month.

Both Tennessee and Clemson have orange as their primary color, making the Orange Bowl a truly orange bowl when the two teams face off on Dec. 30.

Tigers coach Dabo Swinney and Vols coach Josh Heupel were in Miami for a press conference to preview the game on Wednesday.

Swinney was asked what uniforms his team will be wearing for the New Year’s Six game during the press conference.

“I think we’re orange pants and maybe white jerseys,” Swinney said. “I think we got to pick, if I remember. I asked the players what we wanted to do, so I think we’re white on orange. I think that’s what we’re wearing.”

While the jerseys will be white, the Tigers will still be sporting a lot of orange.

“We’ve got orange helmets and orange tape and orange shoes. We’ve got a lot of it,” Swinney said.

Tennessee is likely to wear orange jerseys, although Heupel indicated that his players will vote on the exact combination at a later date.

The Orange Bowl features a pair of top 10 teams as Tennessee enters the game No. 6 in the College Football Playoff rankings, while Clemson is No. 7.

The top 10 showdown will kick off at 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 30. Clemson is a 7-point favorite for the game.

The Tigers are making their seventh all-time appearance in the Orange Bowl after winning the ACC championship for the seventh time in eight years this past weekend.

This is Clemson’s first Orange Bowl trip since 2015 when they beat Oklahoma in a College Football Playoff semifinal game. The Tigers are 4-2 all-time in the Orange Bowl.

This is the third trip to the Orange Bowl for the Tigers under Swinney.

Clemson is 2-1 in this game under Swinney, with wins over Ohio State and Oklahoma and a loss to West Virginia.

While Clemson has made several trips to the Orange Bowl under Swinney, this will be the first time that Clemson has played Tennessee with Swinney as the head coach.

The last time these two teams met came in 2004 when Clemson beat the Vols in the Peach Bowl. Swinney was an assistant on that Tigers team.

The Tigers are 11-7 in bowl games under Swinney, and this is the 24th consecutive year that Clemson has been bowl eligible.
