The bye week is coming at a good time for the Clemson football program.

The Tigers are banged up coming off of Saturday’s win over Wake Forest. Cornerback Nate Wiggins and receiver Antonio Williams were once again unable to suit up for the matchup with the Demon Deacons.

Clemson also had a few players go out with injuries during the game. Dabo Swinney provided an update on multiple Tigers players ahead of the bye week during his postgame press conference.

Swinney started with senior safety Jalyn Phillips, who went down during the game.

“JP? He’ll be alright. I mean he’s just been kinda battling something. He should be alright,” Swinney said.

While Phillips should be OK, Swinney isn’t as sure about senior cornerback Sheridan Jones. Just a couple of hours before kickoff, Jones was ruled out after experiencing headaches.

“I think the biggest thing is we’ll see what’s going on with Sheri,” Swinney said.

Swinney also provided positive updates on Nate Wiggins and Antonio Williams. Wiggins has been out since getting banged up in the Florida State game on Sept. 23, while Williams was injured in Week 3 against Florida Atlantic.

“How close was Nate and Antonio? Pretty close,” Swinney said. “We dressed them out, you know. So they’re pretty close. I think both of those guys will be ready to roll when we head down to Miami.”

Dabo Swinney reveals why Sheridan Jones was unavailable vs. Wake Forest

Earlier in his press conference, Dabo Swinney provided an update on cornerback Sheridan Jones and added further details as far as why he was unable to play against Wake Forest.

“He just started having some headaches,” Dabo Swinney said. “So, he just was feeling kind of sick and nauseous on the bus ride over. Could hardly look at the sun.”

The illness that Sheridan Jones was dealing with apparently came on suddenly and he was being tested to figure out what was wrong following the game. However, Swinney didn’t know any specific details about what Jones was dealing with immediately following the game.

“They took him to evaluate him. They’re running some tests on him and that’s really all I know, right now. I mean, literally, after we walked through the Tiger Walk, I get hit with that news.”

With Sheridan Jones and Nate Wiggins out, Clemson was down its top two cornerbacks. A couple of young corners in Toriano Pride and Jeadyn Lukus got the start and played well in their absence.
