Week 10 Picks: Notre Dame @ Clemson | 10.30.23

It remains to be seen if Clemson will have starting running back Will Shipley available for Saturday’s game against Notre Dame.

Dabo Swinney said during Tuesday’s press conference that Shipley is “day-to-day” ahead of this weekend’s matchup.

Will Shipley took a hard hit during the second quarter of Saturday’s loss to NC State. He was eventually able to walk off under his own power but he did not return to the game.

Swinney said on Sunday that Shipley is in concussion protocol, before sharing on Tuesday that he is day-to-day.

Prior to going down with the injury against NC State, Shipley had six carries for 21 yards and two catches for 20 yards.

With Shipley out for much of the game, Phil Mafah received an increased workload and performed well.

The junior had 16 carries for 84 yards and two touchdowns against NC State, while adding three catches for eight yards.

On the season, Shipley leads Clemson with 515 rushing yards and three touchdowns. He is averaging 4.6 yards per carry. Mafah isn’t far behind with 439 yards and six scores. He is averaging six yards per carry.

Shipley was a first-team All-ACC performer at three different positions last season after rushing for 1,182 yards and 15 touchdowns, catching 38 passes for 242 yards and averaging 23.1 yards per kick return.

Clemson would love to have all hands on deck on Saturday as it tries to pull off the upset against the Irish.

Cade Klubnik describes the conversation he had with Dabo Swinney about not getting used to losing

It has been a tough year for Clemson as the Tigers are 4-4 entering Saturday’s game against Notre Dame.

One of the goals for Clemson as it closes out the season is to not become numb to losing.

Quarterback Cade Klubnik spoke earlier this week about a conversation he had with Dabo Swinney in regards to not getting used to losing.

“Yeah, what he’s done for a long time now is win. And for a long time, that’s kind of all I’ve done is win,” said Klubnik. “And we kinda spoke on that and on we’re not used to losing. He said, ‘We’re never gonna get used to it; we’re never gonna get used to that.’

“I think that the people who love to win will never get used to losing because they hate losing. So every time a loss happens, they don’t. They don’t grow numb to it, but it is as much as it did the first time. That’s something I’ll never let become numb to me because I feel the same way in this one that I did in the first one.”
