CLEMSON — Tigers fans were calling for Taisun Phommachanh to play over DJ Uiagalelei in the first half against Uconn. As it turns, out Dabo Swinney didn’t have that option.

Swinney revealed at halftime that Phommachanh is “banged up” and could not go back in the game.

He was 1-for-1 passing for 33 yards and had 3 carries for 16 yards and a touchdown before leaving the game.

“Taisun couldn’t go back in. He banged up his shoulder and said he couldn’t throw. So we couldn’t put him in there,” Swinney said. “DJ struggled. We missed a few plays. We just weren’t crisp.”

Uiagalelei was 17 for 37 passing for 217 yards with a touchdown and an interception in the first half. He put together a solid drive late in the first half but otherwise struggled. Clemson leads UConn 30-7 at the break.

Earlier in the game, Tigers receiver Justyn Ross was injured. Ross went to the locker room for a bit and returned with crutches and a boot.
