The Clemson Tigers star wide receiver Antonio Williams is set to make his return to game action in Week 8 when Clemson takes on the Miami Hurricanes. Williams has been out of Commission for the Tigers’ last three contests, which they went 2-1.

As Clemson prepares for this huge road showdown with major ACC championship game applications, head coach Dabo Swinney shares his level of excitement at the return of his star wideout.

“I’m really excited,” said Swinney. “Again, it’s been it’s been a long three games not having one of our best players out there. So he’s excited, we’re excited. It’s obviously been a while since he’s played a game, but (I’m) just glad to get him back going, for sure.”

Before his injury, Williams was quarterback Cade Klubnik’s favorite target on the outside. Through the Tigers’ first three games, the sophomore from Irmo, SC, recorded 15 receptions for 145 yards and two touchdowns.

For what it’s worth, there has been a silver lining in Williams’s absence. While he was on the mend, it forced wide receivers Beaux Collins, Tyler Brown, and Troy Stellato to step up their game. And step up they did as the trio is responsible for 56 catches, 828 receiving yards, and five touchdowns on the season. Now that Williams is making his return, Klubnik has an absurd number of top-end pass-catching threats to choose from during the second half of the season.

Swinney on bye week: It was ‘great’

After racking up back-to-back wins, Clemson was able to get into its bye week at 4-2, looking to reset and refocus on the team’s goals now that the team has experienced a couple losses.

Coach Dabo Swinney knows his team needed it after a long haul.

“It’s big. I mean most people don’t really realize what all these guys do,” Swinney said. “I think a lot of times we forget that these are human beings and they’re not robots. They’re not a part of a Madden game. These are real people and they’re students.

“I mean there’s a lot going on for these guys, academically, they’re young people, socially, you name it. They’ve been grinding for all summer and then you go through all camp, and now you’ve got six weeks and you’ve got performance and expectations. It’s a lot on these guys. It’s a lot on anybody.”
