Four-star EDGE David Ojiegbe joins Clemson 'family'

Clemson felt like family for Washington D.C. St. John’s edge David Ojiegbe.

He knew Clemson was home after his first few hours on campus. He was down on campus for the Tigers’ spring game on April 4 and on March 5. And on Wednesday, Ojiegbe officially joined the Clemson family, committing to the Tigers.

“It was the family orientation of the program,” Ojiegbe said. “I liked the vibe I got from the coaches. It felt pretty good. … I kind of knew when I first went down. After the first couple of hours, I knew it was the place for me.”

Ojiegbe is the No. 226 overall prospect in the On3 Consensus rankings for the class of 2023. He is Clemson’s fourth commit in the class of 2023 joining Christopher Vizzina, Nathaniel Joseph and Reid Mikeska. Ojiegbe is Clemson’s first commit on the defensive side of the ball for the 2023 class.

Playing within a family-oriented environment has always been a key for Ojiegbe. He feels he has that in his high school program.

Playing alongside people that he cares about pushes Ojiegbe.

“Being around family makes me more comfortable and makes me want to work harder,” Ojiegbe said. “Knowing that people care about you and see you more than a number or statistic and actually care about you what you want to do with your life is exciting to me.”

Seeing Clemson’s defensive line and head coach Dabo Swinney in action during the spring game added a little more perspective. There is a clear standard at Clemson. It’s something Ojiegbe has come to admire.

“I saw how hard they work,” Ojiegbe said. “They emphasize the standard. There is an emphasis on the coaching, the relationships and they’re all players’ coaches. They all get to know their players. That makes players want to work even harder.”
