Clemson quarterback Hunter Helms is set to join some of the top college quarterbacks from around the country at the Manning Passing Academy this summer.

Helms will be at the camp and serve as a camp counselor, it was announced last week. The Manning Passing Academy will be held June 23-26 in Thibodaux, Louisiana.

Some of the other college quarterbacks set to attend include Ohio State’s CJ Stroud, Alabama’s Bryce Young and South Carolina’s Spencer Rattler.

Former Tigers quarterback Trevor Lawrence previously served as a camp counselor, as did current Clemson QB DJ Uiagalelei.

According to the Manning Passing Academy’s website, its mission is: “To create an environment of greater understanding of, and the proficiency with, the fundamentals, techniques, skills, motivation and sportsmanship necessary for success at the individual offensive skill positions in the sport of football, while expanding the overall knowledge and strategy of offensive play and defensive coverage.”

The camp is for football players between the ages of entering the eighth grade to entering their senior year of high school.

It is put on by Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, Archie Manning and Cooper Manning.

While Helms will be at the camp to help teach younger quarterbacks, the experience should also help him improve as well.

Helms is entering his redshirt sophomore season at Clemson and has been put on scholarship now after previously signing with the Tigers as a walk-on.

The Columbia native had a great senior season of high school at Gray Collegiate Academy before joining Clemson’s program as a member of the 2020 recruiting class.

Helms turned down Division I offers to attend Clemson and begin his career as a walk-on.

As a freshman in 2020, Helms completed 9 of 12 passes for 77 yards and two touchdowns.

The best game of his career to date came that season at Georgia Tech when he completed 5 of 7 passes for 74 yards and two scores.

This past season, Helms appeared in two games, completing 5 of 13 passes for 58 yards.

Tigers coach Dabo Swinney has been very complimentary of Helms throughout his career.

“Hunter, he’s put a lot of work in. He knows our system,” Swinney said. “Just doing his job. The play might not always go great, or the protection may break down. But again, just him demonstrating his knowledge and his confidence. … I just think knowledge wise he’s in a good place.”
