Buford, Ga. linebacker Aubrey Smith had a list of schools pursuing him, but after an official visit to Colorado early in October, his mind was made up.

The 6-foot-2, 230-pound three-star recruit chose the Buffaloes over Florida State and South Carolina.

”I knew Colorado was the school for me during my official visit,” Smith said.

At the end of his time in Boulder, Smith let Colorado inside linebackers coach Mark Smith know of his decision.

“They were very excited and welcomed me to the family,” Smith said of the Colorado coaching staff’s reaction to his commitment.

Smith took his official visit, as well as virtual tour with Colorado. That was all he needed to realize Colorado was for him.

“I committed to Colorado because of their strength and conditioning program for one,” Smith said. “The opportunity for me to have a great impact on defense my freshman year is and how they also have great connections outside of football were important to me.”

On3 rates Smith a three-star prospect with an 86 grade at this juncture of the recruiting cycle.

Colorado is now up to 17 commitments in the 2022 class with the addition of Smith. The Peach State prospect is also Colorado’s third linebacker commit this cycle. Smith joins Shakaun Bowser of Queen Creek (Ariz.) Casteel and Kaden Ludwick of Clackamas (Ore.) as linebackers committed to the Buffaloes.

Smith is also joining Buford teammate Victor Venn in Colorado’s 2022 recruiting class. Venn, a three-star running back, committed to the Buffaloes back in March of this year.
