The Colorado football program and head coach Deion Sanders were a topic of conversation throughout the 2023 college football season.

Love them or hate them, people were paying attention to what the Buffaloes were doing.

It’s no surprise that a lot of money was bet on Colorado football games this past season. People seemed to be on one side or the other, either believing that Colorado would shock the world and win big in Year 1 under Deion Sanders or struggle mightily and come up short time and time again.

People tried to take advantage of those takes by placing bets on Colorado games in big numbers. Sanders revealed just how much money was bet on Buffaloes games recently on a podcast with Robert Griffin III.

“We just had a team meeting downstairs with compliance and so forth, academics, and they was telling the kids about not betting,” Sanders recalled. “They said, ‘700 million dollars were bet on Colorado games last year – 700 million’. I said, ‘Can we get a cut?’

“That’s how much was bet on our games last season. So they were just telling the kids, ‘Don’t get into that.’”

Deion Sanders and RG3 were having a larger conversation about the buzz around the Colorado program this past season when Sanders brought up the $700 million figure.

Seemingly every week, celebrities were coming to town to check out Coach Prime and the Buffaloes.

Sanders believes that helps his players get eyeballs on them and also helps with recruiting.

“I have not met a kid yet who doesn’t want to enhance his followers or his identity or to elevate himself. And with these cameras, with the light we have here, it’s unbelievable the numbers that we’ve generated,” Sanders said.

“But these kids are excited about being in this place, and not only that, seeing an RG3, seeing The Rock, seeing Da Baby, seeing Lil Wayne, seeing all of these guys on the sideline that they can glean from.”

Sanders added that he loves having celebrities around to boost the profile of his players and also speak to his players about lessons they have learned throughout their life.

“Most of these guys come from humble beginnings, so when you’re seeing somebody that you’ve only listened to musically or seeing them on a video, now you’re seeing them right there and you can touch them and ask them questions… do you know how valuable that is to a young man?” Sanders said.

“I love it. I love that our kids get access to The Rock and these other players and people that come to our games.”
