Colorado defensive back Vito Tisdale enters NCAA transfer portal

Colorado defensive back and former Kentucky player Vito Tisdale is back in the transfer portal, On3 has learned.

He spent just one season at Colorado and appeared in three games, recording zero tackles, after previously playing in 14 games with the Wildcats. In those 14 contests, Tisdale racked up 39 total tackles as a rotation player in the Wildcat defensive backfield.

His time with Kentucky didn’t come to a voluntary end, though, as he was kicked off the team roughly one year ago back in March of 2023. He had entered the portal during last year’s spring window as well and joined the massive transfer haul for Colorado in Deion Sanders’ first season. But after one year in Boulder, like many others in the ’23 Buffalo transfer class, Tisdale is back in the portal looking for a new home in 2024.

A product of Bowling Green High School and the son of Nappy Roots member ‘Big V,’ Tisdale is a former three-star recruit, according to the 2020 On3 Industry Rankings, a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services. He was the No. 531 player in his class and the No. 5 player out of Kentucky.

Colorado and the Transfer Portal

Since Deion Sanders has taken over as the head coach at Colorado, the Buffaloes have been one of the most active teams in the portal including both players leaving the program and players coming into the program. Among the big names to transfer to Colorado are his quarterback and son Shedeur Sanders and two-way player Travis Hunter.

To this point in the 2024 cycle, Colorado has the No. 2 ranked transfer class, according to the On3 College Football Team Transfer Portal Rankings. There are 30 players who have transferred out and 25 who have transferred into the Colorado program since the end of last season — quite a bit of commotion for team.

One thing that head coach Deion Sanders will need to navigate is getting the Colorado roster to 85 scholarship players. Between incoming transfers and freshmen, teams often need to see players transfer to not end up above that number.

The Spring Transfer Portal Window will be open for a total of 15 days.
