Colorado graduate transfer Jack Lamb has made a surprising move to medically retire from football after playing one year for the Buffs and three years for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Lamb suffered a shoulder injury last season, which he got surgery this offseason, but ultimately decided to hang up the cleats, according to Adam Munsterteiger.

“ILB Jack Lamb decided to medically retire after going in for off-season shoulder surgery,” Munsterteiger shared on Tuesday. “After transferring to the #CUBuffs program from Notre Dame, Lamb played 168 snaps & recorded 21 tackles in 2021. His 88-yard scoop & score vs. UW was one of the top highlights of the season.”

Prior to helping Colorado go 3-6 in Pac-12 play, Lamb contributed as a backup and special teamer for the Fighting Irish. In 20 games played for Notre Dame, he tallied 20 tackles. He had two for a loss, one sack, two quarterback hurries, a forced fumble and a recovery.

Lamb was a four-star prospect coming out of high school in Temecula, Calif. He ranked amongst the top 150 prospects and chose Notre Dame early in his recruitment over two dozen other programs.

Philadelphia native Naquil Betrand commits to Colorado

Philadelphia Northeast offensive tackle Naquil Betrand committed to Colorado last week to much fanfare after announcing the news on Twitter.

He is the fourth player in the 2023 recruiting class for the Buffaloes along with San Juan Capistrano (Calif.) J Serra Catholic three-star wide receiver Edward Schultz, Stevenson Ranch (Calif.) West Ranch three-star quarterback Ryan Staub and Houston Yates defensive lineman Kam Bizor.

The class is currently ranked No. 26 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Ranking.

Schultz is the highest-rated recruit among them in the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, at No. 823 overall.

The Buffaloes offered Betrand earlier this month. He also has offers from Appalachian State, Bowling Green, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, Colgate, Delaware State, Georgia State, Memphis, Mississippi Valley State, Temple and Washington.

On3’s Peter Warren contributed to this report.
