Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders offered an injury update on his quarterback and son Shedeur Sanders, who suffered a fractured back last season.

It’s a scary injury to see anyone suffer. Luckily, as Deion Sanders explained to media members while getting ready for Spring practice, Shedeur Sanders is doing well in his recovery.

“He’s good,” Deion Sanders said. “He’s awesome. He really is. He’s recovered immensely.”

“I think he’s seven times better, his back is,” Deion Sanders added, before confirming with someone nearby that that’s how many offensive linemen Colorado added this offseason. “That’s how many linemen we got, right? That’s how many new linemen we got. Was it seven or eight? Eight, he’s eight times better. I’m serious, his back is better than he was last year. I mean, the way he’s feeling. He really is. So, we’re good.”

The 2023 season saw Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders flash plenty of potential. However, he was hampered by a struggling offensive line and ultimately suffered a fractured back that forced head coach Deion Sanders to go into the offseason with the job of rebuilding the line, primarily through the Transfer Portal.

In total, Colorado added six offensive linemen through the Transfer Portal in the 2024 cycle. That included two offensive linemen who transferred in from Power Five schools. The Buffaloes also added another offensive lineman in the incoming freshmen class, Jordan Seaton, a five-star recruit.

Shedeur Sanders’ initial injury came during the 2023 season and forced him to miss the final game against Utah.

Deion Sanders claims son Shedeur would have been a top pick in 2024 NFL Draft

Shedeur Sanders returned to Colorado instead of moving onto the NFL. However, had he moved on, Deion Sanders remains convinced his son would have been a top pick.

“Shedeur – let’s just get this straight. Let’s get the elephant in the room. Shedeur would have been a high draft pick this year. Let’s just stop the foolishness and you get mad when I tell you. The only reason I know that is because don’t you think I know people in the NFL? I’m sorry. I played for how many years, 14? Got a gold jacket at the crib, I think. I think I know some people. You know, the Jerry Jones’, Arthur Blanks. I know some people in the game – the Roger Goodells. I know some people. So, when I speak, I’m not just throwing stuff out of my head. I’m throwing stuff based on knowledge,” Deion Sanders said.

“So let’s just get that straight. If Shedeuer would’ve gone in the draft this year, he probably would have been the second [quarterback]. He wouldn’t have been the first quarterback off the board. I think he had the ability but he probably would’ve been the second quarterback off the board.”
