Deion Sanders responded to rumors and wishes connecting him to Texas A&M‘s opening with an emphatic answer.

Evidently, that’s far from where Sanders’ interest is at the moment. He’s content in Boulder, and looking to get back to winning games with the Colorado Buffaloes.

“I want to win. I want to win a game. You think I really do sit down and think about that kind of stuff? What strikes me about that, about myself that you guys really think I sit down and say ‘Ah, yeah Stephen A.?’ Come on, I’m good,” Sanders said, via a press conference on Tuesday. “We’ve got to win. Let’s focus on this week. We play Friday, so we lose a day of practice. So we’ve got to focus.”

Alas, Sanders is responding to the most prominent voice of the rumors, ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, who clamored for the Aggies to get Sanders to the SEC on Monday morning.

“That’s what I’ve been saying, Deion Sanders in the SEC,” Smith exclaimed. “With that vault that they have available to them. Them hogs that he could recruit. He doesn’t have them at Colorado, and he ain’t going to get them. Deion Sanders.

“I don’t think they’ll do it. Texas A&M. Primetime, Deion Sanders in the SEC? That needs to happen.”

Even if Sanders isn’t thinking about the Aggies at the moment, Smith isn’t the only ESPN analyst who could see Sanders at Texas A&M, as during Get Up on Monday, Paul Finebaum shared a couple of names that make sense to him, Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning and the aforementioned Sanders.

“I think Lanning is probably the best choice but he’s got a tremendous buyout at Oregon too,” Paul Finebaum said. “You’re gonna hear every name in the book, including Deion Sanders. So, we’re gonna come back to that one later.”

There’s several reasons why Deion Sanders would make sense for Texas A&M. Even with recent struggles, Colorado is significantly better in his first season than it was before he got there. On top of that, he also has deep ties to the state of Texas. Sanders both played there and coached there at the high school level.

Texas A&M will certainly have more candidates to replace Fisher than Paul Finebaum and Stephen A. Smith mentioned here. However, it’s interesting to see the early names being tied to one of the SEC’s top jobs.

Will Deion Sanders have any interest in the Aggies though? That remains to be seen, and we’ll all be keeping a close eye on the possibility.
