Former TCU and SMU commit Cordale Russell has received an offer from Colorado, he announced Monday morning.

Russell is the No. 212 prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 33 wide receiver and the No. 37 junior prospect in Texas.

The Mesquite (Texas) North Mesquite wideout was previously committed to SMU under former head coach Sonny Dykes, but flipped his commitment to TCU in late November when Dykes was hired there. Last week, though, Russell backed off that pledge as well and reopened his recruitment.

“First off, I would like to thank Coach (Ra’Shaad) Samples and Coach (Sonny) Dykes at TCU for recruiting me and giving me the opportunity to lay the game I’m deeply passionate about,” Russell wrote on Twitter. “This has been a tough decision to make and not an easy one as I know how much Coach Samples cares about me. I also hope that Coach Samp knows how I feel about him. It’s been all love since Day 1 and nobody can, nor will ever question that. But after praying over it, talking to my mom, dad, stepmom and those I know have my best interests at heart I have decided to decommit from TCU. TCU is still special to me, but I need to be 100% sure I’m making the best decision for myself.”

On3’s own rankings are a bit higher on Cordale Russell than the rest of the industry, pegging him as the nation’s No. 174 overall prospect, No. 29 wide receiver and No. 27 prospect in Texas.

The Buffaloes, meanwhile, are looking to continue their recruiting momentum in the Lone Star State. Colorado signed nine prospects from Texas in the 2022 cycle and four in 2021.
