What's Colorado's Path Forward?

When the chips are down, Joel Klatt wants the cards in Shedeur Sanders‘ hands. On Monday, the FOX Sports analyst raved about the Colorado quarterback’s clutch abilities.

“The last couple of minutes roll around for Colorado and Colorado State’s coaches begin to make mistakes, and Shedeur Sanders becomes the most clutch player in college football. And you know what? That’s not debatable. That is also a fact,” Klatt said on his show.

Sanders was fantastic in Colorado’s 43-35 win over Colorado State in double overtime. The junior QB completed 38 of his 47 pass attempts for 348 yards and four touchdowns. Sanders only threw one interception in the contest.

While Sanders had no shortage of highlights in the win, the fourth quarter was his crowning achievement. Down 28-20, the 6-foot-2 QB led the Buffaloes on a 98-yard drive and successful two-point conversion to force the game to overtime.

Nothing new for Shedeur Sanders

Klatt claims Sanders’ heroic performance on Saturday was just another bullet point in an impressive resumé.

“Shedeur Sanders led three straight touchdown drives against TCU, and in every one of those drives, Colorado had a deficit,” Klatt said. “They had to score touchdowns against Nebraska. It was a tight game. They scored on seven of their last eight drives.

Against Colorado State, [Sanders] scored on his final three drives of regulation, field goal, field goal, touchdown,” Klatt recalled. “He’s the most clutch player in college football. He played his best ball when his best was needed. That’s what great players do.”

Crunching the clutch numbers

Through three contests, Sanders is averaging 417 passing yards per game, trailing only Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. No other player averages more than 330 passing yards per outing in the country. Sanders also boasts the seventh-most passing TDs in the nation.

His statistics in crunch time are even more impressive.

“[In the fourth quarter this season], Shedeur Sanders is throwing for 84%, 26 for 31,” Klatt said. “He’s thrown for 450 yards, 14.6 yards per attempt and five touchdowns. Every single one of those is the best in college football.

“When it comes to who is playing the most clutch football in the country, it’s not debatable. The facts are in and the facts are Shedeur Sanders is the most clutch player in the country, and he has been in each one of these games they’ve played.”
