Shedeur Sanders’ 2023 campaign was cut short after he suffered a fracture in his back in Colorado’s Week 12 loss to Washington State. The injury forced Sanders to miss the Buffaloes’ final game of the season. This past week, Sanders revealed how his recovery has gone.

“I feel great. I feel like I’m kind of like how it felt to begin last season,” Sanders said. “I feel stronger. I’m healed. I’m rested up. I trained a lot this offseason, just working. I feel really good. I feel really comfortable. I feel like I’m getting bigger a little bit; definitely the lower half. I just feel stronger overall.”

It’s a miracle Sanders didn’t suffer an injury until Week 12 last season. The Colorado QB was under constant pressure from Week 1. The Buffaloes’ front five allowed 56 sacks in the 2023 campaign, the second-most in the country.

Nonetheless, Sanders didn’t allow the lumps and bruises to slow him down. In his first season in Colorado, Sanders exploded for 298 completions on 430 attempts (69.3%) for 3,230 passing yards and 31 total touchdowns. Additionally, Sanders notched 111 carries for 394 yards and four scores.

Sanders’ 3,230 passing yards are the most in a single season in program history. His 69.3% completion percentage is the best in Colorado history, as well. For his efforts, he was named the AP Pac-12 Newcomer of the Year.

‘Coach Prime’ weighs in on Shedeur’s recovery

Shedeur’s father and Colorado’s head coach, Deion Sanders, confirmed the Buffaloes’ QB1 is healthy and ready for another standout season.

“He’s good,” Deion Sanders said. “He’s awesome. He really is. He’s recovered immensely.”

“I think he’s seven times better, his back is,” Deion Sanders added, before confirming with someone nearby that that’s how many offensive linemen Colorado added this offseason. “That’s how many linemen we got, right? That’s how many new linemen we got. Was it seven or eight? Eight, he’s eight times better. I’m serious, his back is better than he was last year. I mean, the way he’s feeling. He really is. So, we’re good.”

Sanders would know. Colorado began its spring practices on March 18. On April 27, fans can catch a glimpse of their Shedeur behind center in Colorado’s annual spring game. The team hopes to take a massive step forward this season after finishing last year on a six-game losing streak.
