How Coach Prime Has Gotten Ahead of Schedule with Colorado

Colorado plays with a chip on its shoulder. When an opponent makes it easier to find that chip, the Buffaloes won’t hesitate to use it. Colorado State hand-delivered the Buffaloes extra motivation last week.

Heading into the in-state matchup, CSU head coach Jay Norvell criticized Deion Sanders’ decision to wear a hat and sunglasses during interviews. Norvell claimed his mother taught him better. After Colorado defeated the Rams 43-35, Shedeur and Shilo discussed the pregame chatter.

Shedeur Sanders makes it personal

“At the end of the day, it was just about winning the game. Of course it’s personal, but when you get in between those lines, then it’s football,” Shedeur said. “That’s just what it is. We show everybody respect and dignity and respect our opponent. But when they did that Travis stuff, it really clicked for me, like, they really out here trippin’ for real, like overly trippin’.”

Shedeur’s top receiving target, Travis Hunter, went down after Colorado State safety Henry Blackburn delivered a late hit to the standout receiver. Hunter suffered a lacerated liver from the collision and will miss up to three weeks with the injury.

With even more fuel to his fire, Shedeur exploded against the Rams. In the double-overtime victory, the junior QB tallied 348 passing yards and four touchdowns while completing 80.9% of his passes. Shedeur wasn’t the only one looking to make a point.

Blocking out the lights

“We were just out there fighting and battling for hats and sunglasses. We did it. We came through,” Shilo added. “They gotta respect us when we wear hats and sunglasses, when Coach Prime does. Coach Prime was raised right, and we just proved that today.”

While Shilo wasn’t slinging bombs, he was still putting points on the board. In the first quarter, Shilo picked off CSU and took it 80 yards to the house to give the Buffaloes a 7-0 lead.

Deion Sanders wins again

Evidently, Shedeur and Shilo aren’t the only ones backing Deion’s attire. The “Prime 21” shades sell for $67, the year Sanders was born (1967). He personally asked for them to be priced at that number, which was originally $69. As of Monday, the company has made more than $4.5 million off the sunglasses from pre-orders.

Before any fans sported the stylish shades, Sanders gave a pair to each of his players earlier this week.

“You look good. You look fly,” Sanders said after handing them out. “Look fly, look good, on my mama, on my hood.”

Colorado will need to look good this weekend. On Saturday, the Buffaloes will square off against No. 10 Oregon at 12:30 p.m. PT on Saturday. The game will be broadcast on ABC.
