Deion Sanders is lucky enough to be one of the most famous football players of all-time. Since he’s a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, he knows plenty of other NFL legends. And on Sunday afternoon, one of his old friends stopped by to visit.

Former NFL legend Warren Sapp came out to Colorado to visit the Buffaloes head coach.

Sapp enjoyed a dominant playing career during his college and NFL days, much like Sanders. The prime of his career was spent with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he was named NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 1999. He also was a seven-time Pro Bowler, helping guide the Bucs to a Super Bowl championship in 2002. His No. 99 jersey with Tampa Bay was retired and he’s a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Ring of Honor.

In college, Warren Sapp was one of the greatest players ever to suit up for the Miami Hurricanes. He won the national title with Miami (1991) and racked up an extensive number of accolades there, including the Lombardi Award (1994), the Nagurski Trophy (1994), and was named a unanimous All-American (1994). In the 1994 season, Sapp finished with 84 tackles and racked up 10.5 sacks for the ‘Canes. His season was so impressive that he even finished sixth in the Heisman Trophy voting.

Sanders isn’t just using his connections to motivate his players; he also oversaw a drastic roster turnover this offseason.

Deion Sanders and Colorado have generated plenty of conversation about the roster turnover as “Coach Prime” took over. The Buffaloes saw 57 players enter the transfer portal and 49 come in, not to mention a couple highly rated high school recruits making their way to Boulder.

Sanders landed plenty of impressive transfers as Colorado landed the No. 2-ranked group in the country, according to the On3 College Football Team Transfer Portal Rankings. That group is headlined by multiple former Jackson State players who followed Sanders to CU, including Travis Hunter. The two-way sensation and former Five Star Plus+ recruit was the top transfer to hit the portal during the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Transfer Portal Rankings.

Colorado was picked to finish 11th in the Pac-12 preseason poll this year as the conference does away with divisions. The Buffaloes won just one game in 2022 under Karl Dorrell and Mike Sanford Jr., but will start the “Coach Prime” era in a big way Sept. 2. They’ll square up against a TCU team fresh off a national championship appearance.
