Mike Krzyzewski is no longer leading the Duke Blue Devils program, but the Hall of Famer is still staying busy.

Coach K recently joined The Brotherhood Podcast and shared what his schedule is like after retirement. Needless to say, he still has plenty going on.

Even though Krzyzewski is no longer the head coach at Duke, he is still regularly around the program.

“It’s been great,” Mike Krzyzewski said of retirement. “I have a lifetime contract with Duke. Not to coach but to be the ambassador. … I’ve retired from coaching and recruiting. Still have my office, my office staff. And doing a bunch of things to help Duke, obviously, behind the scenes, to support our program. Jon [Scheyer] and I have a very close relationship and talk frequently. That’s good for me and it’s good for him and it’s good for the program.”

Outside of Duke, Krzyzewski works in other capacities, too.

“I do a lot of speaking for the Washington Speakers Bureau all over the country. I’m a professor at Fuqua in lecturing. … I have my own radio show on Sirius XM for the 18th year. I advise for the NBA, so I’ve been at their GM meetings and been at a bunch of meetings with them. And I spend a lot of time helping to run our nonprofit – The Emily Krzyzewski Center,” Coach K said. “We now service about 2,000 kids in Durham. And my 10 grandchildren all live within 10 minutes of us. So I love it. I’m busy, happy and really proud of what you guys have done in keeping it going. We’re looking forward to an even better year. We have a chance to have an even better year this year.”

Krzyzewski also elaborated on what his role is with the NBA.

He became close with several NBA players and executives during his time leading the United States Men’s National Team, including NBA commissioner Adam Silver.

“It’s exciting and it’s very different. … Outside of trying to help our program, I wanted to get away from college. I wanted to get involved with basketball at the highest level and Adam Silver and I are really close friends. I didn’t want a permanent job with them. I wanted to be an independent contractor and have some freedom. So we have an arrangement where I would go to meetings and be on zooms,” Krzyzewski said.

“I’ve learned a lot, and I think I’ve contributed. We have so many guys in the NBA, and a lot of managers who are working in the NBA. All of our guys who are playing now wanna be in the NBA. So for me to have that connection is good.”
