Duke advanced to the Sweet 16 on Sunday after a 38-point beatdown of James Madison in Brooklyn. It didn’t come without its battle scars, though, as more than one Blue Devil, including Jeremy Roach, was banged up in the blowout.

Jon Scheyer updated the status of Roach, who appeared to injure or dislocate something with his hand, following the 93-55 victory. He said that there’s no official word yet on what their plan is for him for the next round since they had yet to do an X-ray of his hand to determine the damage.

“Not yet,” said Scheyer. “We have to get an X-ray for Jeremy. Clearly looked like he dislocated his pinky.”

Roach went to the bench immediately following a play where he swiped at a ball as he clasped his hand. You could see medical personnel working on his hand and fingers as Roach clearly was bothered from the discomfort of it over on the bench.

Still, Roach returned to the game a few minutes later after the staff taped the fingers together.

In total, Roach played 34 minutes during the Round of 32 win over the Dukes. He finished the game with 15 points, six assists, and a pair of steals. He also shot 5-8 (62.5%) from the field, including a three on two attempts, and made all of his free throws.

While he played well, the entire backcourt for Duke went off against JMU as the key for them in the victory. Jared McCain made eight threes at a blistering 72.7% clip en route to a 30-point outing while Tyrese Proctor also contributed 18 points and five assists of his own.

While Duke put on a clinic, the focus immediately turned to No. 1 Houston in the Sweet 16 and, as such, the availability of their players as they head to Dallas. However, as far as official word, Scheyer didn’t have one for Roach yet until they gave him a full look after the game.

“Obviously we have to get him examined and checked out but I don’t know his status yet,” said Scheyer.
