As Mike Krzyzewski’s final year as head coach of Duke draws to an end, many around college basketball are sharing stories of their experiences with the Blue Devils’ legendary head coach. And on Friday, it was the head coach of Notre Dame basketball, Mike Brey’s turn to tell a tale.

While a guest on the ACC networks college basketball show, Bald Men on Campus, Brey shared this hilarious story From his days as an assistant coach under Krzyzewski.

“… Quinn Snyder was our rising senior point guard but maybe not completely a point guard… So, Mike goes into all this stuff about God bless him, we gotta get Quinn to do this, we gotta get Quinn, he goes through it all. He goes ‘hey let me ask you guys. Is that a little much? Should we maybe simplify it?’ And I make the mistake of going ‘yeah coach, I think that’s too much. Let’s just simplify for Quinn.’ He erupts on me, ‘well you guys better get him to do it. I don’t want to hear that. I can’t believe that, I mean he lays into me in front of everybody,” said Brey.

Brey spent eight seasons under Krzyzewski as an assistant at Duke. And after spending five years at Delaware, he took over as head coach for the Fighting Irish in 2000, where he remains.
