Fans wondered if Florida gymnast Trinity Thomas would be able to compete at all in the NCAA gymnastics championship this weekend after suffering a lower leg injury in the regional round. Based on her performance Saturday, she’s feeling just fine.

Thomas turned in a perfect 10 in the vault Saturday afternoon, marking her 28th perfect 10 of her career. That ties the NCAA record, and she’ll have a chance to break that record with two more events on the docket. Two gymnasts — Kentucky’s Jenny Hansen and UCLA’s Jamie Dantzcher — also had 28 perfect 10s in their respective careers.

It was quite a way for Thomas to cap off her impressive career at Florida.

After the event, Thomas said tying the record was the last thing on her mind. She just wanted to end her career on a high note and give it her all for her team.

“I was not focused on that at all,” Thomas said. “I was just focused on being out here one last time with my team. They mean the world to me, and we left it all out here on the floor and I could not be more proud of us.”

Thomas is the only gymnast in NCAA history to complete a “gym slam,” which is a perfect 10 in the uneven bars, vault, balance beam and floor routine. She put on a show at the SEC championships, as well, when she became the seventh competitor in league history to win back-to-back all-around titles and had two perfect 10s. Hansen was the only other gymnast to do so in conference history.

Thomas has also developed quite the following on social media, which has helped her On3 NIL Valuation increase to $110K. That ranks No. 7 in the On3 College Gymnastics NIL Rank.

The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets the standard market NIL value for high school and college athletes. The On3 NIL Valuation calculates the optimized NIL opportunity for athletes relative to the overall NIL market and projects out to as long as 12 months into the future.

Oklahoma wins NCAA gymnastics title

Oklahoma came away with the national title in the championships Saturday, finishing with a 198.3875 team score. That put the Sooners .150 point ahead of Florida, which finished 198.2375. Utah finished third at 197.9375 and LSU rounded out the Four on the Floor with a 197.5250 team total.

It marks the second consecutive national championship for the Sooners, who edged out Florida, Utah and Auburn in 2022 to win a year ago.
