Flower Mound (Texas) Flower Mound four-star quarterback Nick Evers tweeted Sunday about his commitment to Florida after Dan Mullen‘s dismissal, saying that he hopes to remain committed to the Gators if the new coaching staff wants him to stay.

“I know there are a lot of people curious to get my opinion on the coaching change at Florida,” Evers said. “I’ll start by saying Coach Mullen and (quarterbacks coach Garrick) McGee I believe are great coaches, but even better men! The QB position is different than most because you need to be in perfect alignment with the head coach due to your being an extension of that chair.”

While he wants to play his college ball in Gainesville, he added he will be reopening his recruitment to make sure he is making the right decision.

“While I’m hopeful to have a role with (Florida), thus my staying verbally committed, it would be reckless not to understand options until a new coach is named,” Evers said. “I chose Florida for so many reasons other than football and those are still largely in place. I love Gator Nation and want to be here — my hope is that the new staff will have the same love for me and my family!”

Nick Evers is the second player to say he is reopening his recruitment but not decommitting from the Gators after Orlando (Fla.) Bishop Moore Catholic four-star wide receiver Chander Smith.

“Due to the recent events I will be opening up my recruitment again,” Smith tweeted. “This is not me DECOMMITING but I want to ensure that my future home will allow me to do both track and football.”

On the flip side, Ocala (Fla.) Forest four-star wide receiver Jamarrien Burt became the first player to decommit from the school after Mullen’s announcment.

It has been a busy few hours for the Gators, and that probably won’t change over the next few days.
