Florida has been looking for a spark all afternoon against Kentucky, and wide receiver Caleb Douglas provided them with one in the form of a 34-yard-reception. That set up a Hayden Hansen touchdown catch from Graham Mertz, and cut the Wildcats’ lead to 16.

However, Davis ended up injuring himself on an acrobatic catch at the goal line, and had to be helped to the locker room. As halftime hit, he was still being looked at, receiving x-rays on what looked like an ankle injury.

This story will be updated when more information on Caleb Douglas is provided.

Moreover, Billy Napier and No. 22 Florida got off to a shaky start against Kentucky on Saturday, giving up some early yardage to star Wildcats tailback Ray Davis and failing to do much offensively.

Things turned from bad to worse on special teams late in the first quarter.

After the defense forced a three-and-out with Kentucky pinned back in its own territory, Florida committed a leaping penalty that was flagged and granted the Wildcats a first down, keeping the possession. One play later Davis ran for 75 yards to put Kentucky up 16-0 in the contest.

“Tough break there,” Napier told ESPN sideline reporter Katie George. “We’re off the field, we get the ball at midfield there. Freshman player making a rookie mistake. We’ve just got to settle in. We’re missing tackles. Need a little bit of rhythm on offense.”

Kentucky opened the game looking more physical in the trenches, clamping down on Florida’s strong running game and having no problem whatsoever springing Davis into the open field where he could go to work.

Through the first quarter, Davis had logged seven carries for 141 yards and a touchdown.

The Wildcats could be up even more, but they had to settle for a field goal on one drive after standout receiver Barion Brown dropped a would-be touchdown pass in the back of the end zone, completely uncovered.

Still, the game is early and Billy Napier didn’t seem panicked trailing 16-0.

“But there’s no doubt we’ve got to settle in here, we’ve got to make some plays on offense to get back in the game,” he said.
