Florida has already announced its starting quarterback this season will be Graham Mertz, but backup Jack Miller has had a relatively quiet fall camp.

That’s because after dealing with injuries during the 2022 season, Miller is once again dealing with them in fall camp. Coach Billy Napier revealed the ailment on Saturday.

“He’s got tendinitis in his (rotator) cuff, so we just slowed him down a little bit,” Napier said. “We’ll get him back here shortly.”

Miller had been absent from practices of late as Florida noticed he had a bit of a tired arm, so he sat out to rest for a few days. Upon further review, the tendinitis was discovered.

The former Ohio State transfer is expected to be the backup to Mertz, though he was involved in a battle with redshirt freshman Max Brown during fall camp. It’s hard to say whether that might have been a legitimate battle or even where things stand now, with Miller limited.

Miller started one game for Florida last fall, getting the start in the bowl game. It didn’t go all that well, with Miller finishing 13-of-22 for 180 yards without a touchdown or interception. Florida lost 30-3.

Unfortunately for Florida, Jack Miller is on the shelf for now, missing valuable development time.

Cam Carroll out for the year

Miller’s injury isn’t the only one that has popped up in the last few days for the Gators. Running back Cam Carroll was lost for the season after suffering a lower-body injury in a recent scrimmage.

Carroll was running third on the depth chart at the running back position behind returning starters Montrell Johnson and Trevor Etienne.

He transferred to Florida this offseason from Tulane, where he had been productive over the course of the last five seasons.

Cam Carroll accounted for 1,638 yards rushing and 19 touchdowns while with the Green Wave. He played in just one game in 2022, though, suffering a leg injury that prevented him from playing the rest of the way. Healthy again, though, he was expected to be a big contributor for Florida in 2023.
