Florida’s offense is losing a key playmaker.

Redshirt junior quarterback Emory Jones is planning to enter the transfer portal, GatorsOnline’s Nick De La Torre reported Wednesday night. However, Jones is still planning to play in the Gasparilla Bowl.

Jones ranked No. 10 in the SEC with 213.6 passing yards and 58 rushing yards per game this season. The dual-threat quarterback was a big part of the Gators offense under Dan Mullen and interim coach Greg Knox. In fact, he accounted for 57.8% of the Gators’ offense this year.

He’ll have two years of eligibility left.

Florida parted ways with Mullen prior to its regular-season finale against Florida State and hired Louisiana coach Billy Napier to replace him. The Gators went 6-6 this season and will take on UCF in the Gasparilla Bowl on Dec. 23.

Jones was a four-star recruit out of high school from the Class of 2018 and was the No. 11 quarterback from that class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Jones held offers from Alabama, Georgia and Ohio State, among others, out of high school.

His biggest game this year came against Samford when he threw for 464 yards and six touchdowns, ran for 86 yards and a touchdown and led Florida to a 70-52 comeback victory over FCS Samford on Nov. 13.

Florida and UCF square off in the Gasparilla Bowl on Dec. 23 at 7 p.m. ET.

Florida defensive end announces transfer to Michigan State

Jones isn’t the only Florida player to transfer out. In fact, a former Gator committed to his new program on national signing day Wednesday.

Not many programs have worked the transfer portal better than the Michigan State Spartans. On Wednesday, another high-level defensive transfer announced East Lansing would be his destination.

Florida Gators defensive end Khris Bogle announced he would be playing for Michigan State next season via Twitter. Head coach Mel Tucker confirmed the former On3 Consensus four-star prospect would be joining the program as well on Wednesday.

Bogle entered the transfer portal after his junior year, finishing the 2021 season with 22 tackles, three tackles for a loss, 1.5 sacks, and two quarterback hurries over a 10 game stretch. He split time with Brenton Cox Jr. at the defensive end position last season at Florida. Now, Bogle will have the opportunity for a full-time spot with the Spartans.

He will have two years of eligibility remaining thanks to the COVID-19 season.
