Melbourne (Fla.) Eau Gallie four-star defensive lineman Brandon Brown committed to Texas in December, choosing the Longhorns over Miami, UCF, Florida and a number of others.

But a lot has changed since then, including UT defensive line coach Bo Davis leaving for LSU not long after Brown’s commitment.

The Tigers have entered the mix with Davis now on their staff, but other schools are also still making a run at him, including the Gators. Despite not being one of the schools who pushed hardest for him the first time around, UF has turned up the heat on him as of late.

“They just keep trying to get me there,” Brown told Gators Online. “Trying to get me on the phone more and everything. I feel like they’re good coaches. I haven’t talked to them for real yet. I’m trying to get there and see the vibe in person.”

Brown will indeed get to Gainesville, announcing a trip on Thursday via Twitter.

Texas trying to hold off numerous contenders

While he remains committed to Texas, Brown plans to officially visit other schools. Thus far, he’s set officials to Texas, Tennessee and Southern California for June. But he also wants to take some more officials this fall.

According to Brown, Florida visited his school in January. Meanwhile, new defensive line coach Gerlad Chatman communicates with him often.

“Just texting me more and seeing what I’m doing, trying to get me there,” Brown said. “They’re trying to get me there during the season. Spring and during the season.”

The Longhorns aren’t going down without a major fight, though. Brown took his first visit to the Forty Acres earlier this month and got to spend time around Texas’ coaching staff. That included new defensive line coach Kenny Baker.

“Incredible, 10/10,” he told InsideTexas.com of the visit. “Everything. I loved the family atmosphere within the coaches. It was noticeable.”

Brown’s mother, brother, and sister all joined him. They all enjoyed the time spent with Texas’ new defensive line coach.

“He’s a real good guy,” Brown said. “A very cool coach. He ain’t going to tell you what you want to hear. He’s going to tell you what you need to hear. I went over film with him. We went over good and bad. He already is critiquing me.”

Brown has four official visits locked in

Official visits are scheduled to Florida (May 31-June 2), Tennessee (June 7-9), Texas (June 14-16), and USC (June 21-24).

And schools like Texas A&M and Alabama are also still in the mix for visits as well.

Brown is ranked as the No. 308 overall prospect, the No. 27 defensive lineman, and the No. 44 player in Florida in the On3 Industry Ranking, a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services.

On3 ranks Brown as the No. 205 overall prospect, the No. 19 defensive lineman, and the No. 28 player in Florida.
